Synopsis:
In 1743 the young German princess Catherine comes to Russia as a bride of Peter, the abusive heir to the Russian throne. Soon she learns that the road to absolute imperial power is paved with intrigues and cruelty. After a coup d'état, Catherine gets the crown and transforms herself into the Enlightenment Empress. Under her reign Russia starts to be recognized as one of the great powers of Europe and witnesses its Golden Age. However, this is not only a story of a political leader, but also a life journey of a woman that wants to be loved. As the effect of the loveless childhood and marriage, the Empress seeks admirers to serve the throne and her bed.
